PAC Asks for Detailed Report on Irregularities in Pakistan’s Narcotics Division

ISLAMABAD: The Public Accounts Committee (PAC) directed the Narcotics Control Division on Tuesday to submit a detailed report on irregularities found under its departments in the next meeting to be held on January 25 especially the registration of bogus drug cases against politicians and others individuals.

The meeting was led by MNA Noor Alam Khan, who asked the concerned authority about the procedures and rules followed by Pakistan’s Narcotics Control departments amid the registration of such cases.

The authorities informed the committee that there was a need for more time to compile a detailed report for a briefing on the matter.

The chairman of the committee Noor Alam Khan directed the authorities concerned to appear after complete preparation for the upcoming meeting to be held next week and no excuses would be entertained.

PAC on registering fake cases

Noor Alam further said that no one was above the law, however, fake cases of heroin should not be registered against anyone in context of political victimization.

He urged the said practice should be abolished from Narcotics Control Division on a permanent basis to ensure transparency in its investigation processes.

Noor Alam further said the previous government had registered a heroin case against the current minister for Interior Rana Sanaullah with the support of rough Narcotics Control Division during its regime.

He added that it was highly embarrassing to watch in the video that some officials of Narcotics Control Department have asked for money from people at the Islamabad International Airport which defamed the country.

The PAC chairman inquired whether the authorities concerned that if they had taken stern action against the perpetrators or not. 

Earlier the matter of fake cases against politicians had been raised by MNAs Chaudhry Muhammad Barjees Tahir and Sheikh Rohail Asghar during the PAC meeting.

Meanwhile, Secretary, Narcotics Control Division, Humaira Ahmed told the committee that these officials were registering the cases against individuals while acting on received information.

She further said that the department is taking guidelines from the concerned Federal Minister to conduct and ensure proper investigation in a transparent manner.

Member National Assembly Dr Malik Mukhtar Ahmed said the Narcotics Control Division should for reviewing its rules, assuring that the Public Account Committee would facilitate them in the legislation.
