ISLAMABAD/KABUL: Around 875,000 children in Afghanistan are expected to suffer from severe acute malnutrition, while 2.3 million children and 840,000 women will suffer from moderate acute malnutrition in 2023, according to the World Food Programme.

Zabi, 2, is suffering from malnutrition. Zabi’s mother stated that another of her children has suffered from malnutrition. According to Khal Bibi, Zabi’s mother, they have two malnourished children at home. They are malnourished due to a lack of food, clothing, and exposure to bacteria. All of this is due to poverty.
Malnutrition in children
According to Khair Mohammad, Zabi’s grandfather, there are sick and weak children due to poverty. He said we stayed under this curtain during the hot weather and continued to do so during rain and snowfall.
This comes as the World Food Programme’s spokesman in Afghanistan announced that the organization had reached out to 1.4 million people in the first two weeks of January this year.
According to Phillipe Kropf, a WFP spokesman in Afghanistan, life-saving food assistance continues across Afghanistan where possible. Afghan women continue to access assistance and distribution sites where it is safe to do so. WFP and our partners reached nearly 1.4 million people in the first two weeks of January.
This includes nutrition services for malnourished children and pregnant and breastfeeding mothers who are particularly vulnerable to the hunger crisis.
Nutrition services for malnourished children, as well as pregnant and breastfeeding mothers, are included. The Ministry of Economy stated that the aid would be effective for poor people if distributed in collaboration with the ministry. According to Abdul Rahman Habib, a spokesman for the Ministry of Economy, the UN agencies and their partners may coordinate their activities with the ministries and relevant organizations in light of the current economic situation and its equal sharing to vulnerable areas and people who deserve it.
