Over 1000 Road Accidents Claim Six Lives

LAHORE: At least six persons were killed in over 1,000 road accidents across Punjab during the last 24 hours,

According to data shared by Rescue 1122 and Punjab police, 1,012 road traffic crashes (RTCs) occurred in all 37 districts of Punjab, resulting in the death of six fatalities and injuries to 1,034.

According to the data, 557 of the seriously injured people were taken to various hospitals across the province.

The data further said that as many as 477 victims with minor injuries were provided first aid on the spot.

The data said that most of the road incidents (73 per cent) involved motorcyclists.

The data also revealed that 530 motorists, 34 young drivers, 122 pedestrians and 388 passengers were among those injured or killed in traffic incidents.

In Lahore, a total of 279 RTCs were reported, placing the provincial capital at the top of the list. Multan recorded the second-highest number of incidents with 78 victims followed by Faisalabad, where 60 RTCs involving 58 victims were reported.

The data also showed that there of the 1040 victims, 864 were men and 176 women. Of the victims, 214 were under the age of 18, 507 were in the age bracket of 18 to 40 and the rest (319) were aged 40 and above.

According to the data, 98 other types of auto vehicles and slow-moving carts, 875 motorbikes, 79 rickshaws, 99 cars, 24 vans, 10 passenger buses and 20 trucks were involved in the road incidents.
