GAZA CITY: The health ministry in war-torn Gaza on Tuesday said that 1,042 people have been killed in the Palestinian territory since Israel resumed massive strikes on March 18.
According to the ministry’s statement, 41 people killed in the past 24 hours. It also said that the overall death toll had reached 50,399 since the war started on October 7, 2023.
After a two-month ceasefire, Israel resumed its military campaign in Gaza on March 18. Since then, airstrikes and ground assaults have killed more than 1,000 Palestinians, according to Gaza’s Health Ministry. It reports that over half of the casualties are women and children.
Israel starving Gazans to death
“The Gaza Strip is gradually dying from starvation, genocide, and the killing of civilians,” Gaza’s Government Media Office has said.
“In addition to the ongoing massacres and relentless killing, the occupation is deliberately committing the crime of mass starvation by closing the crossings leading to and from the Gaza Strip since the beginning of the genocidal war and completely preventing the entry of aid for a full month,” it said, accusing Israel of preventing the entry of 18,600 aid trucks and 1,550 trucks loaded with fuel.
Israeli airstrike kills Palestinian journalist
A Palestinian journalist and his entire family were killed early on Tuesday in an Israeli airstrike west of Khan Yunis, in the southern Gaza Strip.
Mohammed Saleh Al-Bardawil, a presenter at Al-Aqsa radio station, was killed with his wife and three children in their apartment in the Emirati neighborhood of Khan Yunis.
Four Palestinians injured in West Bank
The illegal Israeli settlers attacked Palestinians in the occupied West Bank, injuring at least four people in the town of al-Auja, near Jericho.
According to Al Jazeera, the victims were on a picnic at a spring in al-Auja on the third day of Eid ul Fitr when settlers, accompanied by a herd of grazing sheep, physically assaulted them and used pepper spray.
The Palestine Red Crescent Society also reported that its crews in Jericho treated a young man injured in the attack at the al-Auja spring.
UNICEF says 322 children killed in Gaza
At least 322 children have died, and 609 more have been injured in Gaza since Israel resumed its attacks on March 18, said the UNICEF.
Many of the victims were displaced, sheltering in makeshift tents or damaged homes.
Some of the children killed were receiving treatment at Nasser Hospital in southern Gaza, which was struck by Israeli forces on March 23, it reported.
“The resurgence of relentless and indiscriminate bombardments, combined with the complete block on supplies entering the Gaza Strip for more than three weeks, has put the humanitarian response under severe strain and Gaza’s civilians – especially its one million children – at grave risk,” UNICEF warned.
In the 18 months since the war began, over 15,000 children have been killed, more than 34,000 injured, and nearly one million displaced multiple times. The humanitarian crisis continues to deepen as aid remains blocked and violence persists.
