OSLO: Oslo’s city hall made a symbolic gesture of solidarity on Wednesday by hoisting the Palestinian flag in support of the people of Gaza, where a brutal military campaign by Israel has led to significant loss of life since October 7.
The move coincided with the International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People, observed annually since 1978 following a United Nations General Assembly resolution.
Oslo mayor Anne Lindboe, speaking at the event attended by pro-Palestinian activists, emphasized the importance of remembering the thousands of lives lost in Gaza, particularly the more than 5,000 children who have perished in the conflict, equivalent to over 275 school classes.
“It is very important to highlight that Oslo should be a city for everyone, where both our small Jewish minority and those with a Palestinian background should feel safe, seen, and included,” Mayor Lindboe stated.
Israeli Brutalities Against Palestinian People in Gaza
The gesture of raising the Palestinian flag aims to convey a message of inclusivity and compassion during a time marked by heightened tensions in the Middle East. The Israeli military’s airstrikes, accompanied by a ground offensive, have resulted in the death of approximately 15,000 Palestinians, as reported by the Gaza government.
The Israeli embassy in Norway expressed no objections to Oslo’s demonstration of solidarity with the Palestinian people.
