ISLAMABAD: Leader of the Opposition in Senate, Senator Shahzad Waseem was censured by the members of the treasury benches on Friday for passing sensitive and derogatory remarks on the female parliamentarians and others, calling them to be ashamed for backing the alleged political victimization of opposition parties by the government.

While taking on the floor of the senate, Shahzad Waseem criticized the government for finding faults with the language and narrative of the opposition members under the garb of contempt and lack of respect for the country’s institutions.

Expressing his views, Senator Shehzad Waseem alleged that the PDM-led government was dragging the country’s system towards a new chaos.

“Two daughters of Fawad Chaudhry went to meet their father in jail instead of going to their school, which was despicable for democracy. The daughters of Saifullah Khan Niazi and Azam Swati should be inquired about the humiliation they faced when police teams raided their bedrooms,” he said.

The opposition leader also accused senators and members of the upper house of defending the conduct of the government while adding that they should be ashamed. Later the treasury benches raised slogans over the harsh remarks of the opposition leader for the government side.

But, the Chairman Senate Sadiq Sanjarani expunged the words of the opposition leader as unsuitable and undemocratic.

After facing an intense backlash from treasury benches, the opposition leader apologized to the house and said he wanted to withdraw his statement.

Senator Molvi Faiz Muhammad began his speech by referring to a hadith of the holy Prophet (PBUH) to contain tension in the situation. He further said that the Prophet’s saying underlined how crucial it was to control one’s tongue. The Prophet (PBUH) commanded to protect the rights and honor of others, adding that foul language was prohibited in the presence of women.
