ANKARA: Turkish security forces “neutralized” eight PKK terrorist elements in northern Iraq, authorities said on Tuesday.
The Ministry of Defence tweeted that the terrorists were hit in an air operation in the Metina region. It also shared the video of the operation.
Turkish authorities use the term “neutralize” to hint the terrorists in question were killed, surrendered or captured.
Turkey started Operation Claw-Lock in northern Iraq in April
Turkey started Operation Claw-Lock in April to hit the hideouts of the terrorist group PKK in the Metina, Avasin-Basyan, and Zap regions of northern Iraq, located near the Turkish border.
It also carried out two other operations Claw-Eagle and Claw-Tiger in 2020 to eliminate terrorists hiding out in northern Iraq and plotting cross-border attacks in Turkey.
In its more than 35-year-long terror campaign against Turkey, the PKK—declared as a terrorist outfit by Turkey, European Union and the United States— has killed over 40,000 people including infants, women and children. –APP/AA
