Opening of IFAD Office in Islamabad will Boost Partnership

ISLAMABAD: Ambassador of Pakistan Ali Javed has held bilateral talks with President of International Fund for Agricultural Development Alvaro Lario at IFAD Headquarters to review the trajectory of cooperation and discuss the opening of organization’s new office in Islamabad, local media reported on Saturday.

The IFAD is a global financial institution and a specialized agency of the UN that works to address issues like poverty and hunger in developing nations.  President IFAD has warmly recalled inking ‘Host Country Agreement’ (HCA) in June 2023 leading to establishment of IFAD Country Office in Islamabad and termed it a major bilateral milestone.

IFAD Country Director Pakistan Fernanda Thomaz Da Rocha also attended the meeting and expressed her keenness to work with her counterparts. She will officially operationalize IFAD Country Office Islamabad in April.

President IFAD highlighted Pakistan’s status as being one of IFAD’s main partner State and lauded the formal confirmation from Islamabad towards promise for IFAD’s 13th Replenishment Cycle.

President IFAD lauded the smooth democratic transition in Pakistan via elections in February and also welcomed the IFAD Country Office in Islamabad.

In conclusion, the two sides vowed to consolidate bilateral cooperation and acknowledged institutionalized cooperation via upcoming IFAD Country Office Islamabad to serve as new chapter in their partnership.
