NEW YORK: OpenAI is set to introduce its ChatGPT Voice Mode feature, with the initial alpha rollout scheduled to begin next week for ChatGPT Plus subscribers. The announcement came from OpenAI CEO Sam Altman, who confirmed the upcoming launch on X (formerly Twitter).
In a post on X, Altman responded to an inquiry about the new feature, stating, “Alpha rollout starts to Plus subscribers next week!” This indicates that only those who are subscribed to the ChatGPT Plus service will have the opportunity to experience the new voice capabilities, which OpenAI first demonstrated several months ago.
The company plans to begin with a limited alpha release to gather feedback and refine the feature before a broader rollout. According to a statement from OpenAI’s official X account, the alpha phase will involve a small group of users selected from the Plus subscriber pool. The company has not yet revealed specific details on how users will be chosen for this initial access.
Despite the limited initial rollout, OpenAI has assured Plus subscribers that the feature will be available to all users within the fall. “We’re planning for all Plus users to have access in the fall,” OpenAI stated.
The introduction of ChatGPT Voice Mode represents a significant enhancement to the platform, building on its existing text-based capabilities. This feature aims to provide a more interactive and engaging user experience by incorporating voice functionality.
The launch of the voice mode was initially scheduled for June but faced delays as OpenAI worked to meet its standards for the feature’s rollout. The decision to push back the launch by one month was made to ensure that the new functionality met the company’s quality benchmarks.
