SRINAGAR: The Narendra Modi-led Indian government is persistently seizing the assets of innocent individuals in Indian-occupied Jammu and Kashmir as a punitive measure linked to their involvement in the ongoing freedom movement.
Recent reports from Kashmir Media Service highlight the Modi administration’s latest actions, including the attachment of properties belonging to five Hurriyat activists in Bandipora and Ganderbal districts—individuals such as Irfan Ahmad, Lateef Khan, Mohammad Hussain Shah, and Waliullah are among those affected.
This aggressive approach extends beyond individual activists; it encompasses confiscations targeting the All Parties Hurriyat Conference headquarters in Srinagar, residences, and assets of Hurriyat leaders like Syed Ali Gilani Shaheed, Shabbir Ahmed Shah, Aasiya Andrabi, and Jamaat-e-Islami across the occupied region. The systematic destruction of residential properties, shops, and complexes further amplifies the plight faced by Kashmiris.
The alarming frequency of property seizures by India within Kashmir is becoming distressingly commonplace. This method is employed to coerce Kashmiris into withdrawing their support from the ongoing struggle for independence.
The actions of attaching Kashmiris’ properties reflect the vindictive political agenda of Modi’s Hindutva regime. Additionally, the Indian military’s recurrent demolitions of Kashmiris’ homes during aggressive operations compound the economic hardships faced by the populace. These systematic demolitions, unlawful confiscations, and coerced evictions form part of India’s calculated strategy to destabilise the economic well-being of Kashmiris.
Modi must recognise that India’s historical pattern of harsh military control and colonial tactics has consistently failed to weaken Kashmiris’ determination for self-determination and freedom. Unless India ceases its state-sponsored terrorism and fulfils its commitment to grant Kashmiris their right to self-determination, its relentless efforts will meet the same resistance in the future.
