BEIRUT: A Lebanese security official has said that one person has been killed and five have been injured in a shooting inside a mosque, Arab media reported. Reports said that motives behind the firing have yet to be ascertained.
One Killed, Five Injured in Lebanon Shooting
Official media reported that gunfire broke out later between a suspect and Lebanese forces, who was injured in that exchange of firing. A security official told on the condition of anonymity that the killed and wounded people were all Syrian nationals. The area is home to many Syrian refugees who fled war in their country.
Lebanon is home to over one million Syrian refugees and sentiments against the Syrian people have been on the increase since economic meltdown began in 2019 in Lebanon. The decline is rooted in decades of mismanagement and corruption by Lebanon’s ruling class.
