UNITED NATIONS: Pakistan Ambassador to UN Munir Akram on Thursday emphasized Pakistan’s commitment to upholding the core values of the United Nations, marking the organization’s 79th anniversary. He called for the resolution of unresolved conflicts, including those in Palestine and Kashmir.
In his message, he expressed heartfelt congratulations to all UN Member States and the global UN family, recognizing their nearly eight decades of dedication to peace, security, cooperation, and human dignity.
“On this day, let us renew our commitment to the vision of a united world where future generations can enjoy better prospects, where every individual’s dignity is respected, and where conflicts are resolved peacefully. Those fighting for self-determination, from Kashmir to Palestine, must be treated with justice and without discrimination,” he stated.
Ambassador Akram noted that this year’s UN Day comes at a time when international relations are strained by geopolitical tensions and conflicts that challenge the essence of the UN like never before. “In the face of unprecedented challenges—ongoing conflicts, economic crises, pandemics, and the existential threat of climate change—multilateralism and international cooperation, rather than protectionism and confrontation, are essential to overcoming the collective challenges we face.”
He expressed hope, highlighting the recent adoption of “the Pact of the Future” during the 79th session of the UN General Assembly, which reflects a collective commitment to action and cooperation.
“As a responsible member of the international community and a strong advocate for multilateralism, Pakistan remains dedicated to supporting the UN and its objectives. From our long-standing contributions to UN peacekeeping to our efforts in climate action, poverty eradication, and championing the rights of all people, including the right to self-determination, Pakistan will continue to uphold the core values of the organization. We are committed to collaborating with all Member States to build a more peaceful, just, and prosperous world.”
Ambassador Akram and his team at the Pakistan Mission extended their best wishes for the continued success of the United Nations in its noble mission, looking forward to constructive collaboration in pursuit of shared aspirations.
