Omar Hamid Khan Resigns as ECP Secretary Citing Health Issues

ISLAMABAD: Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) Secretary, Omar Hamid Khan, tendered his resignation on Sunday, citing health concerns. While media reports confirm Omar Hamid Khan’s resignation, Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Sikandar Sultan is yet to accept the resignation.

Omar Hamid Khan, a retired grade 22 officer of the Secretariat Group, took on the role of ECP secretary in July 2021 under a contractual arrangement.

Before his tenure at the ECP, Omar Hamid Khan held various significant roles, including special secretary of finance, secretary of the Benazir Income Support Program (BISP), and national food security, among other responsibilities. Additionally, he served as the spokesperson for the interior ministry, showcasing his diverse experience in public service.

Last year in July, CEC Sultan Sikandar Raja extended Omar Hamid Khan’s term as the ECP secretary for an additional year.

With over 30 years of experience in socioeconomic analysis, both on international and domestic issues, Khan has been a seasoned professional in the public sector. He completed his Bachelor of Science in 1982 from Government College Lahore and later earned his Masters of Science in Zoology in 1986 from the University of Punjab.
