SRINAGAR: National Conference (NC) leader Omar Abdullah on Sunday said that Indian Illegal Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK) deserves better than a powerless, rubber stamp unelected chief minister.

In a statement issued in Srinagar, he said that Narendra Modi wants to enforce Hindutva rule in the occupied territory by giving more powers to the Lt Governor.

The move of the Modi-led BJP Indian government to enhance powers to Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir Lt Governor is aimed at further disempowering Kashmiris.

He further said giving more powers to unelected LG is a clear example to dent the future of a democratically elected IIOJK government.

It said enhancing the powers of an unelected LG is another move of the Modi regime to disempower Kashmiris systematically, especially post-August 2019 when it abolished Kashmir’s special status and imposed a military siege in the territory.
