MUSCAT:  Oman’s Foreign Minister Sayyed Badr bin Hamad Al Busaidi has pointed out the necessity of abolishing the veto power from the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) as voting is based on political calculations from five countries who have the authority to stop the decision, even if it is unanimous.

He said “This process can be made now, by taking immediate collective action to set up a Palestinian state, and taking practical measures to ensure that the right of the Palestinians to self-determination and the will of the world are quickly achieved.”

The minister said that there is need to reform global institutions based on managing international relations so that these organizations are appropriate to today’s developments instead of focusing on addressing old’s problems.

He stressed that the formation of a Palestinian state is an existential necessity, and without a state, the Palestinian people are doomed to a constant threat of extermination, destitution, and death.

He pointed out the need to accelerate finding a permanent solution that “promises the establishment of an independent Palestinian state”. “With the aim of saving the Palestinians from the suffering of destitution, human tragedy, geocide they face daily.” The top diplomat of Omran stressed the significance of holding an urgent global conference that brings together global parties to reach executive agreements that ensure an effective and quick solution.

He said: “A solution to the issue of Palestine can and must be reached, but to achieve this, there must be a shift in thinking, as the attempts made to deal with the current issues are still stuck in the past.”

He said that this is a very serious obstacle, and they see it today in the face of the horrific humanitarian catastrophe in the Gaza Strip, there is a denial to do the only thing that might open a way to peace.
