JEDDAH: The General Secretariat of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) has welcomed the agreement between the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA) and the Islamic Republic of Iran to resume diplomatic ties and reopen their respective embassies, among several other agreements.
These agreements include the activation of security collaboration and cooperation in technical, economic, trade, investment, and science fields, as well as in the domain of sport, culture, and youth, which was signed in 1998.
Both sides affirmed their respect for the “sovereignty of states and non-interference in internal affairs.”
They also expressed their desire to resolve differences through talks in the framework of brotherly relations and commitment to the principles and objectives of the United Nations (UN), OIC charters, and international instruments and norms.
OIC Secretary-General, Hissein Brahim Taha, expressed the hope that this step would strengthen the pillars of peace, security, and stability in the region and give new momentum to cooperation among OIC Member States.
The OIC Chief praised the Republic of Iraq, the Sultanate of Oman, and the leadership of the People’s Republic of China for hosting and sponsoring the negotiations between the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the Islamic Republic of Iran, thus enabling their success.
OIC condemns gruesome Israeli crime in Jenin
Meanwhile, in another statement, OIC condemned the gruesome crime committed by the Israeli forces in Jenin, leading to the martyrdom of three Palestinian nationals.
The OIC views Israeli aggression against the Palestinian people as a flagrant violation of international humanitarian law, which calls for accountability.
The OIC requests the global community to intervene to stop the ongoing Israeli forces’ crimes and violations in all parts of the occupied Palestinian territories, including Al-Quds Al-Shareef. OIC called for international protection for the Palestinian people.
