JEDDAH: The 40th Follow-up two-day Committee Meeting of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Standing Committee for Economic and Commercial Cooperation (COMCEC) was held in Turkiye’s Ankara on May 22-23.
In his message to the meeting, the OIC Secretary-General Hissein Brahim Taha urged all members state to establish robust institutional frameworks facilitating active multilateral economic engagement across various sectors.
Hissein Taha further urged member states’ active participation in the upcoming Twelfth Islamic Conference of Tourism Ministers (ICTM), slated for May 31st to June 2nd, 2024, in Khiva, Uzbekistan.

Additionally, he encouraged participation in the Third Session of the Trade Negotiation Committee at the ministerial level, scheduled for an open-ended format in Istanbul, Turkiye, from June 10th to 11th, 2024. These engagements aim to adopt programs and initiatives fostering intra-OIC trade and tourism.
During the 40th Follow-up Committee Meeting, the status of various projects under COMCEC was reviewed, with a focus on trade and investment, agriculture, tourism and financial development, as well as the private sector and poverty alleviation. Moreover, the meeting endorsed the draft agenda for the 40th General Assembly of COMCEC, slated for November 2nd to 5th, 2024, in Istanbul, Turkiye.
The annual convening of COMCEC Follow-up Committees serves to assess the implementation of COMCEC Ministerial Sessions’ resolutions in economic and trade development, while also facilitating the preparation of essential documents for upcoming Ministerial Sessions.
