JEDDAH: The Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) on Sunday expressed serious concern about the ongoing conflict between the rapid support forces and the Sudanese army in several cities across Sudan.

The Secretary-General of the OIC, Hissein Brahim Taha, has called for an immediate ceasefire and the resumption of dialogue in order to find a peaceful resolution to the crisis.

In a statement released on Friday, Taha expressed his confidence in the wisdom of the people of Sudan and leadership and their ability to overcome this crisis through negotiation and dialogue.

He called on all parties to exercise restraint and to prioritize the interests of the Sudanese people above all else.

The fighting in Sudan began earlier this week and has resulted in numerous casualties and the displacement of thousands of people.

The conflict erupted as a result of tensions between the army and the RSF troops, which are made up of paramilitary units that have been accused of human rights abuses in the past.

OIC urges warring parties to respect international humanitarian law

The OIC has urged all parties to respect international humanitarian law and to safeguard civilians and civilian infrastructure.

The organization has also called on the international community to provide assistance to those affected by the conflict.

The conflict in Sudan comes at a time when the country is already facing multiple challenges, including economic instability, political uncertainty, and the COVID-19 pandemic.

The OIC has emphasized the urgent need for the Sudanese people and leadership to work together to address these challenges and to ensure a peaceful and stable future for the country.

The OIC’s call for an immediate ceasefire and return to dialogue in Sudan is an important step towards resolving the conflict and preventing further bloodshed.

The international community must come together to support the people of Sudan in their efforts to build a more prosperous and peaceful future for themselves and their country.
