JEDDAH: The Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) has strongly condemned the unethical and illegal attack by Israel, the occupying power, against the United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, terming it as an act of political blackmail against the UN, an OIC statement said on Thursday.

According to the statement the OIC considered the Secretary-General’s speech at the Security Council to be in line with his duties and responsibilities derived from international law, international humanitarian law, as well as resolutions and charter of the United Nations.
The OIC also expressed its respect to the Secretary-General for the role of the United Nations agencies and their efforts at all levels to stop the war crimes carried out by the Israeli occupation against the people of Palestinian, their land, and holy sites.
Earlier, United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres denounced Israel’s actions in Gaza, citing alleged violations of international law, and called for an immediate ceasefire during a high-level session of the UN Security Council.
Strongly reacting to the UN Secretary-General’s statement, Israel demanded immediate resignation from Antonio Guterres.
