JEDDAH: The General Secretariat of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) has presented written submissions to the International Court of Justice (ICJ) concerning the legal consequences arising from Israel’s policies and practices in the Occupied Palestinian Territory, including the eastern part of Al-Quds (Jerusalem). The submissions were made in response to the UN General Assembly’s mandate, requesting an advisory opinion on this matter.
In its written submissions, the OIC emphasized that Israel’s actions in the occupied Palestinian territory amount to gross violations of human rights guaranteed by international law. The organization firmly stated that the Israeli colonial occupation of Palestinian Territory is unlawful and constitutes a violation of relevant UN resolutions and international law, demanding an immediate cessation of such practices.
OIC Reaffirms Unwavering Support for Rights of Palestinian People
In the document, the OIC reaffirmed its absolute and unwavering support for the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people, including their right to self-determination, return, and the embodiment of the establishment of their independent state on the 1967 borders, with Al-Quds Ashariff as its capital.
The OIC’s move reflects its commitment to seeking legal recourse through the ICJ to address the ongoing violations and injustices faced by the Palestinian people in the occupied territories. By requesting an advisory opinion from the ICJ, the OIC aims to bring attention to the grave human rights situation in the region and advocate for the realization of the Palestinian people’s rights and aspirations.
