JEDDAH: The Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) has vehemently condemned a recent incident of desecration of copies of the Holy Quran in Malmo, Sweden, emphasizing the urgent need for action against such provocative acts.

The incident occurred on Saturday, 30 September 2023, despite previous calls made by the OIC to Swedish authorities to prevent the recurrence of such offensive actions.
OIC Secretary-General, Hissein Brahim Taha, reiterated the organization’s firm stance against these acts of religious hatred, which he emphasized were clear violations of international law. Taha highlighted the OIC Council of Foreign Ministers’ resolution, passed during its 18th Extraordinary Session on 31 July 2023, which addressed the repeated incidents of the Holy Quran desecration. The resolution condemned these actions unequivocally and urged Swedish authorities to take immediate and robust measures to prevent their repetition.
The OIC’s consistent calls for action reflect its commitment to safeguarding religious sentiments and upholding international norms. The organization has urged Swedish officials to act swiftly against those responsible for such acts.
