Jeddah: The Council of Foreign Ministers (CFM) of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation has strongly condemned the repeated desecration of copies of the Holy Quran in Sweden and Denmark.
A resolution adopted after the virtual session of CFM held in Jeddah on July 31 said the tragic incidents hurt the sentiments of Muslims worldwide.
It said such acts highlight rising hatred and racism against Muslims in the Western world.
The moot was called at the request of Saudi Arabia and Iraq to address the repeated acts of incidents of burning copies of the Holy Quran in Scandinavian states.
The moot expressed its displeasure over the continued issuance of permits by the authorities in Sweden and Demark, allowing such acts to take place.
The OIC believed such incidents are against the UN resolutions on international tolerance ad peace.

It was decided in the meeting that an OIC delegation under its Secretary General would be dispatched to the Commission of the European Union to express strong condemnation of the incidents of the burning of the Holy Quran in European states.
The resolution called upon the OIC Missions in New York, Geneva, and Brussels to take steps to raise the issue and all international forums.
The OIC, in its resolution, applauded the Secretary-General’s decision to suspend the Swedish Envoy status to the OIC.
The resolution lauded the efforts of Kuwait to print 100,000 copies of the Quran translated into Swedish to prevent the deceleration of holy scripts in the future.
Earlier, Saudi Arabia, Iraq, and other Muslim countries strongly condemned the desecration of the holy Quran.
Meanwhile, Pakistan’s Foreign Ministry, in a statement, said a strong protest has been lodged with the Government of Denmark on the matter, and the country believed the Danish authorities would take all measures to stop such acts.
