OIC Secretary General’s Visit to AJK Will Send Strong Message of Support: Pakistan PM

ISLAMABAD:  Hissein Brahim Taha, Secretary General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), called on Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif here on Monday and discussed important issues including human rights violations in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK) and rising Islamophobia in the world.  

The Secretary General is paying his first visit to Pakistan since assuming office in November last year.

During the meeting, the prime minister highlighted human rights violations by Indian forces in IIOJK and hailed the principled position of OIC and steadfast support for the resolution of Kashmir issue in accordance with the relevant United Nations resolutions and wishes of the Kashmiri people.

He said that the Secretary General’s visit to the Line of Control and Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) would send a strong message of support from the Muslim body to the Kashmiri people in their cause of right to self-determination. 

The premier also expressed steadfast support on the behalf of the nation to the Palestinian people and their freedom struggle against Israel. He said that any solution to the Palestine problem must be based on pre-1967 borders with Jerusalem as its capital.

PM appreciates OIC’s increased engagement in Afghanistan

He also appreciated the OIC’s increased engagement with Afghanistan in the historical session of the body’s Council of Foreign Ministers in Islamabad in December last year. He encouraged the Secretary General to step-up efforts to alleviate the humanitarian challenges faced by the Afghan people.

The Prime Minister stressed the need to counter the rising Islamophobia, and attempts to degenerate the sanctity of the Prophet Muhammad (P.B.U.H).

On his part, the Secretary General extended his condolences over the human losses and material damage in the recent floods in Pakistan. – APP
