JEDDAH: The Secretary-General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), Hissein Brahim Taha, has issued a heartfelt plea to the OIC Member States, financial and humanitarian institutions, and international donors, urging them to provide immediate and substantial humanitarian assistance to Sudan in the face of its worsening humanitarian crisis.

In a statement issued from OIC headquarters in Jeddah, Secretary-General Taha drew attention to the critical situation unfolding in Sudan, highlighting the urgent need for support to alleviate the suffering of the Sudanese people.

He emphasized that concerted efforts were required to address the deteriorating humanitarian conditions across the country.

With an impassioned appeal, Secretary-General Taha urged donors and partners to prioritize the provision of medical supplies and health services to Sudan.

The country’s healthcare system is under immense strain, and the shortage of essential resources has significantly impeded the delivery of critical care to those in need. By emphasizing the importance of medical assistance, Taha sought to address this pressing issue and underscored the vital role that immediate support could play in saving lives.

Recognizing the immense burden placed on Sudan’s neighboring countries, the Secretary-General also called for increased assistance to support their efforts in hosting Sudanese and foreign refugees.

Sudan has experienced a large number of citizens fleeing conflict and other dire circumstances, placing a strain on the limited resources of the host nations.

The Secretary-General emphasized the significance of international solidarity in addressing the needs of these vulnerable populations.

OIC Secretary-General calls for full respect of humanitarian principles

Moreover, Secretary-General Taha reiterated his call for the full respect of humanitarian principles and standards. He urged all parties involved to facilitate the unhindered delivery of humanitarian aid to those in need, regardless of their location within Sudan.

By emphasizing the importance of unrestricted access to affected areas, Taha aimed to ensure that assistance reaches the most vulnerable populations, regardless of the challenges posed by the conflict or other logistical obstacles.

The humanitarian crisis in Sudan has reached alarming levels, with millions of people affected by armed conflict, displacement, and food insecurity.

The OIC Secretary-General’s urgent appeal serves as a rallying call to the international community, urging them to respond swiftly and generously to provide critical humanitarian support to Sudan. The situation demands immediate action to prevent further suffering and loss of life, making solidarity and support from the global community crucial in the face of this crisis.
