OIC Secretary-General Meets UN Chief, Discusses Important Issues

JEDDAH: Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Secretary-General Hissein Brahim Taha held a meeting with United Nations (UN) Secretary-General Antonio Guterres on the sidelines of the 78th session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in New York.

Both leaders discussed aspects of cooperation and partnership between the two organizations in different fields and the readiness to hold the next session of the general meeting between both bodies next year.

The UN Secretary-General appreciated the role of the OIC and its contributions to strengthening the pillars of security, development, peace, and stability.

The meeting also touched upon a range of regional and international matters on the agenda of both organizations, especially the question of Palestine, the situation in Afghanistan and the Sahel region, as well as Islamophobia.

OIC Chief Meets High Representative of the United Nations Alliance of Civilizations

Moreover, the OIC Secretary-General also held a meeting with the High Representative of the United Nations Alliance of Civilizations Miguel Moratinos.

They discussed the distinct ties between the OIC and the Alliance of Civilizations and the prospects for cooperation, particularly in the field of combating the phenomenon of Islamophobia and religious hatred.

The Secretary-General commended the important role played by the Alliance of Civilizations in promoting understanding and harmony among civilizations and peoples.

On the occasion, the Alliance of Civilizations High Representative stressed cooperation to combat religious hatred and Islamophobia.
