JEDDAH: The Secretary-General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), Hissein Brahim Taha pn Thursday held a productive telephone conversation with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Jeyhun Bayramov.
Azerbaijan currently chairs the Non-Aligned Movement, a group of states that are not formally aligned with or against any major power bloc.
During the call, both sides expressed their appreciation for the level of cooperation between Azerbaijan and the OIC, and discussed various issues of mutual interest. The conversation was described as cordial and constructive.
The two officials discussed the current situation in the Islamic world, particularly in the context of the ongoing conflicts in the region. They also discussed ways to strengthen the cooperation between Azerbaijan and the OIC on issues of common concern, including the promotion of peace and security, the fight against terrorism, and the development of economic and cultural ties.
OIC Secretary-General commends Azerbaijan
The OIC Secretary-General commended Azerbaijan for its active role in promoting regional stability and for its efforts to strengthen the bonds of friendship and cooperation among OIC member states.
He also expressed the OIC’s solidarity with Azerbaijan in its efforts to resolve the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict through peaceful means, in accordance with international law and UN resolutions.
The conversation between the OIC Secretary-General and Azerbaijan’s Foreign Minister comes at a time when the international community is calling for greater cooperation and coordination to address the many challenges facing the world today.
It is hoped that this conversation will serve as a stepping stone towards closer cooperation between Azerbaijan and the OIC, and contribute to the efforts to promote peace, stability and prosperity in the Islamic world.
The telephone conversation between the OIC Secretary-General and Azerbaijan’s Foreign Minister was described as fruitful and productive, and underscores the strong ties of cooperation between the two sides.
