OIC Secretary General for Fostering Cooperation Among Member States

BAKU: The Secretary General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), H. E. Hissein Brahim Taha, emphasized that the inauguration of the OIC Working Center, a new specialized institution of the OIC, is a significant event and represents an important milestone in the joint efforts to strengthen socio-economic cooperation among OIC member states.

During his statement at the Constituent General Assembly held in Baku, Azerbaijan, on Wednesday, the Secretary-General emphasized that the new institution would effectively help in the ongoing cooperation between the areas of trade and investment, agriculture, and food security, among others.

Hissein Taha praised the leadership and foresight of His Excellency Mr. Ilham Aliyev, President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, for proposing the establishment of the center during his speech at the 2nd Islamic Conference of Ministers of Labor held in Baku, Azerbaijan, on 25-26 April 2013.

The inaugural meeting also included a speech by Sahil Babayev, Minister of Labor and Social Protection of the Population of the Republic of Azerbaijan.

During the meeting, candidates were elected for various key positions within the OIC Labor Centre, including the Chairman, Vice-Chairmen, and members of the Executive Council.

The session also elected Mr. Azar Bayramov as the Director General of the OIC Labor Center.

The meeting also approved the Provisional Organizational Structure and Budget of the Center’s Secretariat for the period 2023-2026. The Republic of Azerbaijan generously contributed US$1 million as a voluntary donation to the new center’s budget.
