OIC Secretary-General Calls on International Community to Resolve Kashmir Conflict

NEW YORK: The Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Secretary-General Hissein Brahim Taha reiterated the OIC’s call for concrete actions from the global community to resolve the Kashmir conflict in line with the UN Security Council resolutions.

Taha emphasized the pressing need for heightened international efforts in addressing the Jammu and Kashmir issue, alongside the ongoing initiatives of the OIC.

Taha chaired the Ministerial-level meeting of the OIC Contact Group on Jammu and Kashmir, which took place on the sidelines of the 78th United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) Session in New York.

The meeting primarily focused on discussions surrounding the current situation in Jammu and Kashmir. Secretary-General Taha highlighted the OIC’s consistent issuance of resolutions supporting the Kashmiri people over a span of four decades.

OIC Contact Group Meeting

This Ministerial Meeting of the OIC Contact Group on Jammu and Kashmir coincided with the fourth anniversary of the illegal and unilateral actions taken in the Indian-occupied state of Jammu and Kashmir.

During the meeting, Mr. Jalil Abbas Gilani, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, provided updates on the regional situation since the last contact group meeting held in March 2023, on the sidelines of the 49th Session of the OIC Council of Foreign Ministers in Nouakchott, Islamic Republic of Mauritania.

Minister Gilani expressed gratitude to the Secretary-General and Contact Group members for their unwavering support for the Jammu and Kashmir dispute. He also highlighted instances of human rights violations occurring in the Indian-occupied Jammu and Kashmir region.
