JEDDAH, Saudi Arabia: The Secretary-General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), Mr. Hissein Brahim Taha, emphasized the significance of the international coalition supporting the two-state solution. This coalition, introduced by Saudi Arabia’s Foreign Minister Prince Faisal Bin Farhan during a high-level meeting at the United Nations General Assembly, was endorsed by the Arab-Islamic Ministerial Committee and the European Union.

Mr. Taha urged all nations to join this historic initiative, which seeks to uphold international law, the United Nations Charter, and its resolutions. The coalition aims to provide a political safeguard for the two-state solution, supporting efforts to end the Israeli occupation, establish an independent Palestinian state, and achieve lasting peace in the region.

He also reiterated his appeal for countries that have not yet recognized Palestine to join the global consensus. Currently, 149 countries recognize the State of Palestine, and Mr. Taha stressed the importance of Palestine gaining full United Nations membership. Such recognition would strengthen Palestine’s legitimacy and support the Palestinian people’s inalienable rights, including self-determination, and contribute to the establishment of a sovereign state along the 1967 borders with Al-Quds Al-Shareef as its capital.
