JEDDAH: Secretary-General of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Hissein Brahim Taha has called for an immediate and permanent ceasefire in Gaza, urging an end to Israeli aggression and the complete withdrawal of Israeli forces.
He made the remarks during the 21st Extraordinary Session of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the OIC member states in Jeddah on Monday, the Saudi Press Agency (SPA) reported on Monday.
Taha strongly condemned the ongoing actions of Israeli occupation forces, describing them as acts of genocide, ethnic cleansing, forced displacement, and systematic destruction.
He also denounced the continued illegal blockade of the Gaza Strip, which he said weaponises starvation, as well as the expansion of settlements—particularly in the E1 area of Jerusalem—and the targeted killing of journalists, calling for legal accountability for these crimes.
The OIC Secretary-General stressed that Israel’s grave war crimes against the Palestinian people demand a stronger and more effective international response.
He also highlighted the unprecedented humanitarian crisis in Gaza and condemned recent statements by the Israeli government regarding full military control over the territory and its pursuit of a “Greater Israel” agenda.
He urged the implementation of resolutions from the Joint Arab-Islamic Summit held in Riyadh and welcomed the recognition of the State of Palestine by several countries, calling on others to follow suit.
