JEDDAH: The Secretary-General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), Hissein Brahim Taha, has renewed his call for an immediate ceasefire in Sudan.

He expressed deep concern over the continued fighting and violence that have claimed numerous victims and left many injured.

He also noted that the heightened fighting would have a devastating impact on the civilians and the humanitarian situation in Sudan, especially since the fighting is taking place in Sudanese cities.

In a statement, the Secretary-General assured the OIC’s support for international efforts aimed at holding a truce to allow the delivery of humanitarian assistance and the evacuation of those injured and trapped in areas close to where clashes are taking place between the armed forces and Rapid Support Forces.

The Secretary-General emphasized the need for the peace track and negotiation to overcome the dangerous crisis that is threatening the security, safety, and unity of Sudan.

Earlier, the Secretary-General called on the leadership of the armed forces and the Rapid Support Forces to end the fighting and embrace dialogue and negotiation.

The OIC has been actively working to support Sudan in its efforts toward peace and stability. In February, the OIC supported the signing of the Juba Peace Agreement, which aimed to end the long-standing conflict in Sudan’s Darfur region.

Transitional Government of Sudan

The OIC also welcomed the formation of the Transitional Government of Sudan and has continued to support Sudan’s efforts toward democracy, stability, and development.

The OIC’s renewed call for an immediate ceasefire and support for truce efforts for humanitarian aid delivery and evacuation of injured reflects its commitment to peace and stability in Sudan.

The OIC stands ready to support Sudan in any way possible and encourages all parties to work towards a peaceful and sustainable resolution to the ongoing crisis.

The OIC’s statement comes amidst rising tensions in Sudan, with clashes between the armed forces and Rapid Support Forces continuing in various parts of the country, causing a humanitarian crisis and loss of lives.
