JEDDAH: In connection with Kashmir Solidarity Day, a Photo Exhibition at the OIC premises in Jeddah highlighted ongoing human rights violations in the Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK).

The Secretary-General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), Hissein Brahim Taha, addressed the exhibition on Monday.

Taha expressed the OIC’s satisfaction in hosting the event organized by the Permanent Mission of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan to the OIC in commemoration of “Kashmir Solidarity Day.”

He affirmed the OIC’s unwavering commitment to advocating for a just and peaceful resolution of the Kashmir issue in line with the pertinent resolutions of the United Nations Security Council.

He reiterated the call for the complete implementation of UN resolutions, which stress the right to self-determination for the people of Kashmir.

The Secretary-General recalled that during the 49th session of the Council of Foreign Ministers in March of the previous year in Nouakchott, Islamic Republic of Mauritania, the Council urged India to reverse all illegal and unilateral measures implemented on or after August 5, 2019.

It called for an end to gross human rights abuses in the Indian Occupied Jammu and Kashmir and advocated for unrestricted access to UN Special Procedures, international media, and independent observers to visit the region.

Hissein Taha also mentioned the visit undertaken by his Special Representative for Jammu and Kashmir, Ambassador Yousef AlDobeay, to Azad Jammu and Kashmir.

Concluding his speech, the Secretary-General reiterated the OIC’s steadfast commitment to collaborating with all relevant stakeholders to find a peaceful and just solution that respects the rights and aspirations of the deserving people of Kashmir.
