OIC Lauds Protection of Multi-ethnic Culture in Xinjiang: Wang Wenbin

BEIJING: A delegation from the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) which recently visited Xinjiang’s Uyghur Autonomous Region, appreciated China’s economic and social progress and lauded the Chinese government for its strong commitment to protect the multi-ethnic culture in the region, Chinese Foreign Ministry Spokesman Wang Wenbin said on Tuesday.

The member of the delegation commended the success of China’s people-centered governance in the province, including de-radicalization and effective counter-terrorism policy, which has brought peace and happiness to the country, the spokesman said.

From 16 to 21 August, the OIC delegation visited China and paid a trip to Xinjiang at the invitation of the Chinese government. It was comprised of representatives from 23 nations.

Wenbin said that during its stay in Beijing, the delegation held meetings with authorities from departments, including the Foreign Ministry of China and the United Front Work Department of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China. It also held exchanges with the China Islamic Association.

He said that the delegation visited Urumqi, the Kizilsu Kirgiz Autonomous Prefecture, Kashgar, and Changji, where they witnessed an exhibition on counter-terrorism and de-radicalization.

Delegation Visits Xinjiang Islamic Institute

It also visited the Xinjiang Islamic Institute, the ancient city of Kashgar, and witnessed projects of green development and rural revitalization in the region. They met with Uyghur families and religious figures and prayed together with local Muslims at a mosque.
