JEDDAH: President of Indonesia Joko Widodo, has met with the Secretary-General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), Mr. Hissein Brahim Taha and discussed ways to enhance bilateral ties, Arab media reported.
During the talks held at the Presidential Palace in Jakarta, critical issues on the OIC’s agenda, the situation in the Islamic world, regional and international issues, and the OIC role in bringing unity in the Islamic world came under discussion.
The Secretary-General of the OIC is currently on a two-day official visit to Indonesia, leading a high-level delegation.

The Indonesian President promised his country’s full support to the OIC and its actions and lauded its services to the Islamic world and its people.
He also acknowledged the OIC’s efforts and initiatives in dealing with the growing phenomenon of Islamophobia and the crimes of burning copies of al-Mushaf ash-Sharif.
OIC, Indonesia Review Bilateral Ties
The Secretary-General in his remarks praised the vital role played by Indonesia in supporting the activities and programs of the OIC.
He touched on several vital and relevant issues of priority for the organization as well as Indonesia, such as supporting the Palestinian cause and Afghanistan, ensuring the right to education for women in this country, and the issue of the Rohingya, Sudan, and Niger.
The two sides also discussed the current developments in the Sahel region and the importance of supporting educational, developmental, and agricultural projects there.
Indonesian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mrs. Retno Marsudi was also present in the meeting.
