JEDDAH: A significant symposium titled “Future Prospective for Countering Terrorism through Digital Technologies” was held at the headquarters of the Islamic Military Counter Terrorism Coalition (IMCTC) in Riyadh.
The event was a pivotal gathering focused on exploring innovative strategies to leverage digital technologies in the fight against terrorism, aligning with the memorandum of cooperation between the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) and the IMCTC.
Representing the OIC Secretary-General, Yousef AlDobeay, Assistant Secretary-General for Political Affairs, emphasized the importance of this dialogue in the context of the OIC’s Ten-Year Program of Action-2025, which prioritizes combating terrorism and extremism.
The symposium brought together a diverse array of international thinkers, researchers, and experts from IMCTC member countries, alongside the Director of the United Nations Counter-Terrorism Center (UNCCT) and representatives from various international organizations dedicated to countering terrorism.
Participants engaged in in-depth discussions on the latest developments in extremism, critically examining the challenges and opportunities faced by the IMCTC in its mission. The symposium’s primary goal was to foster the exchange of insights and experiences among stakeholders dedicated to combating terrorism and violent extremism. Attendees collaboratively explored robust strategies to counter the global use of digital technologies by terrorist groups, recognizing that technology plays a dual role in both facilitating and combating extremism.
