JEDDAH: The Secretary-General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), Hissein Brahim Taha, has strongly condemned Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s irresponsible statements regarding the Arab Republic of Egypt.

In a statement on Wednesday, he criticized Netanyahu’s justification for the illegal presence of Israeli occupation forces in the Salah al-Din ‘Philadelphia’ axis, terming it as an attempt to evade responsibility for disrupting the ceasefire agreement and perpetuating genocide, Israeli military aggression, siege, starvation, and forced displacement of the Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip.

The Secretary-General reaffirmed the OIC’s solidarity with Egypt and support for its historic role in maintaining security, peace, and stability in the region, calling on the global community to fulfill its obligations by imposing an immediate and comprehensive ceasefire and ensuring the full withdrawal of Israel, the occupying force, from the Philadelphia Axis and all parts of the Gaza Strip as per the UN Security Council Resolution 2735, dated June 10, 2024.

Additionally, The OIC Secretary-General denounced the Israeli Prime Minister’s recent presentation of a map without the occupied West Bank, considering this act as a continuation of racist and illegal Israeli policies based on denying the existence and legitimate rights of the people of Palestine.

He added that such actions constitute a persistent effort to establish the illegal colonial occupation and settlement system in the occupied Palestinian territories, which threatens the two-state solution.

The Secretary-General urged the international community, especially the UN Security Council and the UN General Assembly, to implement the advisory opinion of the International Court of Justice on the illegality of the Israeli occupation, and to consider additional steps to end Israel’s illegal presence in the Occupied Palestinian Territory as early as possible.
