JEDDAH: The Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) has strongly denounced the Israeli occupation forces’ deliberate targeting of journalists, and of their families, in the occupied Palestinian territory, the Saudi Press Agency (SPA) reported on Saturday.

The latest such assault resulted in the killing of video journalist Samer Abu Daqqa and the wounding of correspondent Wael Al-Dahdouh, members of Al Jazeera crew, which resulted in renewed calls on the International Criminal Court (ICC) to complete the probe into all crimes carried out by Israel against civilian population, including journalists, who deliberately killed, apprehended and beaten up.

In a press statement, the Organization of Islamic Cooperation held the Israeli occupation completely responsible for the martyrdom of over 80 journalists and the arrest of more than 45 media persons since the beginning of the current Israeli military aggression in the West Bank and Gaza Strip, adding that this is part of Israel’s attempts to discourage media persons from performing their mission of reporting scenes of genocide, documenting the criminal war waged by the Israeli occupation forces in the occupied Palestinian territory, and preventing them from sharing all this with the public worldwide.

The OIC also called on the relevant international institutions and organizations to take immediate action to ensure that justice is achieved, and to provide the essential protection for civilian populations, including media professionals working in the occupied Palestinian territory, as per international humanitarian law and relevant global agreements.
