JEDDAH: The Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) and the Digital Cooperation Organization (DCO) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aimed at fostering the development of an inclusive and sustainable digital economy among member states.
The MoU was signed by the Secretary-General of the OIC, Hissein Brahim Taha, and the Secretary-General of the DCO, Deemah Al Yahya, at the OIC Headquarters in Jeddah on Wednesday.
The agreement provides a framework for collaboration between the OIC and the DCO to advance digital transformation efforts in member states.
Key areas of cooperation outlined in the MoU include the digitalization of human resources, bridging the digital and ICT skills gaps, and harmonizing government regulatory frameworks to facilitate the interoperability of digital data and identities across countries.
The aim is to ensure a seamless digital ecosystem that promotes connectivity and accessibility for all.
Moreover, the MoU emphasizes the promotion of high-quality internet connectivity, particularly in remote and rural areas.
This focus on expanding connectivity aims to bridge the digital divide and ensure that all citizens have equal access to digital resources and opportunities.
OIC, DCO seek to raise awareness among stakeholders
Additionally, the agreement seeks to raise awareness among key stakeholders, including the public and private sectors, civil societies, and business communities, about the potential of harnessing emerging technologies such as big data for socio-economic development.
The signing ceremony was attended by Permanent Representatives to the OIC from several member states of both the OIC and the DCO.
The collaboration between these organizations reflects their commitment to leveraging digital technologies for the benefit of member states and promoting sustainable digital economies across the Islamic world.
