OIC Convention to Strengthen Anti-Corruption Cooperation: Law Minister

ISLAMABAD: Federal Minister for Law and Justice Senator Azam Nazeer Tarar has said that the convention of OIC (Organization of Islamic Cooperation) member states would reinforce cooperation among Law Enforcement Authorities of OIC Member States to address the hazard of corruption.

According to a press release on Tuesday, the minister said that while taking part in the first ministerial meeting of Anti-Corruption Law Enforcement Agencies of OIC Member States in Jeddah to approve Makkah Al-Mukarrammah Convention on Anti-Corruption Law Enforcement Cooperation.

Apart from the gathering, the law minister will also have bilateral meetings with his counterparts from some OIC Member States.

During his speech, Azam Nazeer Tarar hailed the leadership of Saudi Arabia for the outstanding initiative of Makkah Al-Mukarrammah Convention of Member States of OIC on Anti-Corruption Law Enforcement Cooperation. He added that corruption was a multi-layered problem with incalculable social, economic and political consequences.

Anti-Corruption Cooperation

He advised the member states to reject financial safe havens for criminals and take initiatives to remove all barricades in the recovery and repatriation of stolen assets to countries of origin. He expected that the Convention would pave the way for improving collaboration among the OIC Member States and enable in return proceeds of crime.
