JEDDAH, Saudi Arabia: The Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) has vehemently condemned the Israeli authorities’ decision to seize land housing the United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA) in occupied Al-Quds, labeling it a colonial act that undermines the agency’s mandate.
This move is seen as part of a broader pattern of illegal Israeli actions that violate international law and the United Nations Charter.
The OIC highlighted the significant role UNRWA plays in providing essential services and humanitarian assistance to Palestinian refugees, particularly in the Gaza Strip.
The organization pointed out that any attempts to delegitimize UNRWA or disrupt its operations pose a direct threat to regional stability. Moreover, it emphasized that the ongoing violence against UNRWA facilities, which has resulted in numerous casualties among workers and displaced persons, constitutes a violation of international law that warrants thorough investigation and accountability.
In light of these events, the OIC urged the international community to hold Israel accountable for its actions and to ensure that UNRWA’s mandate is respected. It called for protective measures for the agency’s facilities and personnel, underscoring the urgent need for international intervention to stop the ongoing violations against Palestinian refugees and uphold their rights.
The OIC’s firm stance reflects the broader concern among Islamic nations regarding the humanitarian crisis facing Palestinian communities amid escalating tensions in the region.
