JEDDAH, Saudi Arabia: The Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) has denounced the Israeli occupation’s bombing of the Al-Ahli Arab Baptist Hospital in the Gaza Strip, describing the attack as a war crime and a blatant violation of international law and humanitarian principles.

The OIC in a statement on Monday described the bombing as a war crime and a flagrant violation of international law and international humanitarian law.

It warned of the imminent collapse of Gaza’s health sector due to the targeting of hospitals, power outages, and shortages of essential medical supplies and fuel, which threatens a humanitarian disaster.

The organisation reiterated its urgent appeal to the global community, particularly the Security Council, to enforce an immediate ceasefire and ensure the delivery of vital medical, relief, humanitarian aid, and necessities to the Gaza Strip.

Saudi condemnation

Meanwhile, Saudi Arabia has also condemned Israeli strikes on a major Gaza hospital, knocking out the emergency department.

The Kingdom categorically rejected Sunday’s attack on the Al-Ahli Arab Baptist Hospital and said it constituted a flagrant violation of all international laws and norms, the Saudi Press Agency reported.

The head of the World Health Organisation on Sunday said that a child died because of the air strike on the hospital.

“A child died due to disruption of care,” WHO director-general Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said in a post on X.

“The emergency room, laboratory, emergency room X-ray machines, and the pharmacy were destroyed,” he added, quoting information from the director of the hospital.

“Many victims remain trapped under the rubble and on the roads, as rescue teams are unable to reach them,” the statement added.
