OIC Chief stresses the need for devising an effective strategy to boost the economic growth of member states

ISTANBUL: OIC Chief Hissein Brahim Taha has stressed the need for devising an effective strategy to accelerate the economic growth of all 57 member states.

Muslim countries “need an urgent plan” to “increase economic growth, both sustainable and inclusive,” the OIC chief said in Istanbul on Monday.

Hissein Brahim Taha, speaking at the 38th permanent session of the Committee on Economic and Trade Relations (COMCEC) in Turkey, said that the power outage due to the war between Russia and Ukraine has increased the economic pressure of the epidemic.

Highlighting the recent floods in Pakistan that caused the death of more than 1,700 people and economic losses of about $30 billion, Taha said that climate change has also displaced millions of people and led to a situation that “has made the country the OIC’s are worse’, including in Pakistan and some African countries.

For the OIC to “overcome these challenges quickly”, Taha said that Muslims must focus on investing in the agricultural and industrial sectors.

Calling for the promotion of the group’s strategy for 2025, Taha urged the member states to incorporate this process into their national policies.

“Creating relationships with financial and technological systems and promoting new youth jobs in the economic sector,” Taha told the 57-member Muslim community. “Intra-OIC cooperation was needed more than ever,” he stressed.

Acknowledging the support of the people and the government of Türkiye to the group, Taha said, “We pray for peace and stability in Türkiye and we reject all forms and manifestations of terrorism.
