JEDDAH: The General Secretariat of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) participated in the signing ceremony of the second series of projects under the Afghanistan Humanitarian Trust Fund (AHTF). The event, held at the Islamic Development Bank Group (IsDB) headquarters in Jeddah on Wednesday, featured the presence of Dr. Muhammad Al-Jasser, President of the IsDB Group.
In his opening speech, Dr. Mohammed Al-Jasser expressed gratitude to the OIC for its role in garnering support for the AHTF from OIC Member States and the international community.
The OIC Secretary-General, Hissein Brahim Taha, delivered a statement through Ambassador Tariq Ali Bakhit, OIC Assistant Secretary-General for Humanitarian, Cultural, and Social Affairs, and Special Envoy to Afghanistan. Taha highlighted that the agreements between the IsDB and project implementers exemplify solidarity, reflecting the collective desire to alleviate the suffering of the Afghan people.
OIC Chief Thanks Saudi Leadership for Consistent Support
Taha extended his deep appreciation to the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Salman bin Abdulaziz, and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman for the consistent humanitarian support provided by Saudi Arabia to Afghanistan. He also thanked Dr. Al-Jasser, President of the IsDB Group, and the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center (KSrelief) for their key role in implementing emergency relief projects in coordination with the OIC Mission in Kabul.
During the ceremony, the Secretary-General emphasized that the collective efforts to provide relief and humanitarian support would significantly contribute to mitigating the impact of the economic crisis and successive natural disasters affecting vulnerable sectors of Afghan society.
Following the speeches, participating parties signed the second series of agreements for the Afghanistan Humanitarian Trust Fund, encompassing a range of humanitarian and development projects.
