OIC Chief Dispatches Mission to Observe Referendum in Uzbekistan

JEDDAH: The Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) has dispatched an Election Observation Mission in order to observe the Constitutional Referendum in Uzbekistan. The referendum will be held on Sunday.

The observer mission led by Ahmed Sareer held a meeting with the head of the Central Election Commission of Uzbekistan, Nizamkhodjayev Z. Makhamatovic. He conveyed the greetings of the OIC Secretary-General, Hissein Brahim Taha and his wishes for the success of the referendum in the country.

The OIC delegation also held a meeting with the Deputy Foreign Minister Braham Jan Alaev, and expressed the readiness of the OIC to support the commitment of the citizens of Uzbekistan as they consolidate their democracy and development. The meeting further emphasized the significance of cooperation between Uzbekistan and the OIC in terms of support for democracy and good governance, a main pillar of the OIC’s mandate towards its member nations.
