ISLAMABAD: In the Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK), Indian military, paramilitary, and police officers have been charged with war crimes. The Kashmir Media Service has issued a report calling for accountability and encouraging the international community to speak out against these atrocities, which seriously threaten world peace.
The Report calls explicitly for prosecuting Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and those associated with him, as well as Indian troops and agencies, for their alleged involvement in war crimes against innocent Kashmiris and minorities in India.
Despite the observance of the International Day of Peace on September 21, the people of IIOJK continue to experience the worst forms of state terrorism perpetrated by India over the past 76 years.
The Report highlights the ongoing suffering of the people of Jammu and Kashmir under brutal Indian occupation, with Kashmiri civilians facing violence and even massacre with impunity. Indian security forces are accused of using excessive force, including torture, against the Kashmiri population daily.
The Report characterizes the situation in IIOJK as a humanitarian crisis, with ordinary Kashmiris living under constant surveillance and restrictions while being subjected to what is described as a grave humanitarian crisis. It decries the global community’s silence regarding the situation in IIOJK, particularly since the abrogation of Articles 370 and 35A and the region’s transformation into a heavily fortified area by the BJP/RSS-backed Modi government.
The Report highlights that over four thousand Kashmiris, including leaders of the All Parties Hurriyat Conference (APHC), men, women, youth, journalists, and human rights defenders, are currently detained in IIOJK and India under illegal conditions.
It calls upon the world community to pay attention to the suffering of the oppressed and caged Kashmiris who await assistance from the global community.
The Report emphasizes that India continues to obstruct a peaceful resolution of the Kashmir dispute and holds the Narendra Modi-led Hindutva Indian government responsible for the alleged crimes in Kashmir. Kashmir is described as the largest open-air prison today.
Meanwhile, leaders of the APHC in Srinagar have strongly condemned the prolonged illegal detention of Kashmiri political prisoners, emphasizing that the killings and arrests of innocent people portray the dire situation in IIOJK.
They warn that India’s actions, such as changing the demographic composition of the internationally recognized disputed territory, are endangering regional peace and fostering an atmosphere of hatred. —APP
