NUMS, South Korean Vaccine Institute to Collaborate on Vaccine Development in Pakistan

RAWALPINDI: National University of Medical Sciences (NUMS) on Tuesday signed an agreement with International Vaccine Institute (IVI) in South Korea to collaborate in indigenous vaccine production through the transfer of technology and capacity building of Pakistani scientists.

A delegation from the National University of Medical Sciences led by Vice Chancellor Lt Gen Wasim Alamgir held a meeting with the Director General of the International Vaccine Institute (IVI) South Korea Dr. Jerome H. Kim and his team in Seoul, South Korea. They discussed the cooperation potential in the health sector and signed a memorandum to jointly produce vaccines.

According to a statement by the National University of Medical Sciences, both sides agreed to cooperate in capacity building of the scientists, including on-site training of a group of Pakistani researchers and transfer of technology for the production of vaccines.

The VC presented his host, Dr. Jerome, with a NUMS shield on the occasion.

Dr. Prof. Aisha Mohyuddin, Dean of NUMS Faculty of Multidisciplinary Studies, and Jaweed Akhtar, Consultant of Strategic Planning and Development were also present in the meeting.
