STOCKHOLM: Norwegian police said on Saturday that Marius Borg Høiby, the 27-year-old son of Norwegian Crown Princess Mette-Marit had been arrested for violating a restraining order.

The arrest follows earlier accusations of violence and harassment related to his relationship with a woman in Oslo.

Høiby was first detained on August 4 after a disturbance at the woman’s apartment, where he was accused of causing bodily harm. Norwegian media reports indicated that police discovered a knife embedded in one of the walls of the woman’s bedroom during their investigation.

In early September, the police received reports that Høiby had made unwanted contact with the woman on multiple occasions, prompting them to issue a restraining order against him. The order was intended to prevent further harassment or harm.

However, police later received information indicating that Høiby had breached the restraining order, leading to his rearrest late on Friday due to concerns over the potential for further violations.

In addition to the breach of the restraining order, authorities are now investigating Høiby for alleged crimes against three other victims, including domestic abuse involving two women and threats towards another person.

Høiby’s defence lawyer, Øyvind Bratlien, has strongly contested the allegations. “In my 17 years as a defence lawyer, I have never experienced or heard of an arrest on such a flimsy factual and legal basis,” Bratlien told Norwegian broadcaster NRK.

Marius Borg Høiby is the son of Crown Princess Mette-Marit from a previous relationship before her marriage to Crown Prince Haakon in 2001. Although he was raised alongside his step-siblings, Princess Ingrid Alexandra, 20, and Prince Sverre Magnus, 18, by Mette-Marit and Haakon, Høiby does not hold any official public role.
