OSLO: Norway’s King Harald underwent a successful procedure to implant a temporary pacemaker on Saturday at a hospital in Malaysia, where he had fallen ill during his holiday, the Norwegian royal household confirmed.
The decision to implant the pacemaker was made due to a low heart rate, as stated by the palace in a released statement. Despite the circumstances, the palace assured that the monarch is doing well post-procedure but requires rest.
The pacemaker implantation aims to ensure a safer journey home for the 87-year-old king, who is expected to return home in a couple of days. King Harald was vacationing privately in Malaysia when he fell ill with an infection earlier in the week.
