OSLO: Norway’s Foreign Minister, Espen Barth Eide, condemned Israel’s decision to revoke the diplomatic status of Oslo’s envoys to the Palestinian Authority as an “extreme action” with potential repercussions.
In a statement on Thursday, Eide expressed that the move would impact Norway’s relationship with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s government.
He added that Norway is evaluating its response to the situation created by the Netanyahu administration.
Israeli Foreign Minister Israel Katz announced the revocation of the diplomatic status for Norwegian envoys to the Palestinian Authority, citing Oslo’s “anti-Israel behavior” since the Gaza conflict began in October.
Katz stated, “I have ordered the termination of any representation by the Norwegian Embassy in Israel with the Palestinian Authority,” and emphasized that “there is a price for anti-Israel behavior.”
