ISLAMABAD: According to a statement by Norway’s government, it plans to purchase at least 54 next-generation Leopard 2 tanks and is open to buying a further 18 tanks and plans to phase them in its armed forces in 2026-2031.
It added that the first group of new tanks was set to be delivered in 2026.
The statement showed that the move was clearly to strengthen the Norwegian national preparedness and defense capability.
The media release quoting Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Store stressed the importance of close defense linkages in Europe.

Store added that by this purchase, Norway would have some type of tanks as our neighbors and trusted allies.
He added that by this move Norway was forging closer security policy cooperation with Germany.
The government said the purchase was within the cost limit of $1.96 billion.
